UV DTF Cup Wrap FAQ
UV DTF 16oz Cup Wrap — Frequently Asked Questions
Application
How do I apply a UV DTF cup wrap?
Follow these steps for the best results:
- Clean the surface. Wipe your cup thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely. Any oils, dust, or moisture can prevent proper adhesion.
- Dry-fit first. Before peeling the liner, wrap the decal around the cup to confirm placement and alignment. Mark the position lightly with a pencil if needed.
- Peel and apply. Starting at one edge, slowly peel back a small section of the liner and press the design firmly onto the cup. Work across the wrap in sections, smoothing as you go to avoid wrinkles.
- Smooth out bubbles. Use a squeegee, credit card, or your fingernail to press out any air bubbles from the center outward toward the edges.
- Press the edges. Pay extra attention to the leading and trailing edges — press them down firmly to ensure a secure bond.
- Let it cure. Allow 24 hours before the cup gets wet or is handled heavily.
How do I dry-fit the wrap for proper alignment?
With the liner still on, wrap the decal around your cup and note where the design lines up with the handle, seam, or any other reference point. If the cup has a handle, center the design on the opposite side. Once you're happy with the position, peel and apply from one edge, keeping that reference point in mind as you work across.
Sizing
What size cup is this wrap designed for?
Our wraps are sized for standard 16oz glass can-style cups (also called libbey-style or beer-can glasses). These typically measure approximately 3.25" in diameter and 4.75" tall in the wrap area.
How do I measure my 16oz glass can to confirm fit?
Use a flexible measuring tape or a piece of string around the widest point of the cup body. A standard 16oz glass can has a circumference of approximately 10.25". Our wraps are cut to fit this circumference with a slight overlap for a clean seam. If your cup measures significantly larger or smaller, the wrap may not align properly at the edges.
Will this wrap fit other cup styles?
These wraps are specifically sized for smooth-sided 16oz glass can cups. They are not designed for tapered tumblers, cups with pronounced ridges or texture, or cups with significantly different diameters. Using a wrap on an incompatible size may result in gaps, bubbling, or misaligned edges.
Compatible Surfaces
What surfaces are compatible with UV DTF wraps?
UV DTF wraps adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces, including:
- Clear or frosted glass
- Smooth-coated glass (powder-coated or painted glass)
- Smooth acrylic or hard plastic
Avoid applying wraps to textured, matte-etched, or rubberized surfaces, as the adhesive cannot bond evenly to uneven textures.
Bubble Prevention
How do I prevent bubbles when applying the wrap?
Apply the wrap slowly, section by section, pressing firmly with a squeegee or credit card as you go. Work from the center of each section outward. If a bubble appears, lift the wrap slightly at the nearest edge, re-smooth, and press again. Starting with a clean, dry surface is the single biggest factor in bubble-free application.
What if small bubbles remain after application?
Tiny bubbles often disappear on their own within 24–48 hours as the adhesive fully sets. For persistent bubbles, gently press them toward the nearest edge with your fingertip or a soft squeegee.
Permanence
Is the wrap permanent?
UV DTF wraps form a strong, durable bond on compatible smooth surfaces and are intended as a long-term decoration. They are not designed to be easily removed and repositioned. Once cured, attempting to peel the wrap may damage the surface or the design.
Care Instructions
How should I wash a cup with a UV DTF wrap?
We recommend hand-washing only with mild soap and lukewarm water. Avoid soaking the cup or submerging the edges of the wrap for extended periods. Gently pat dry rather than scrubbing. Hand-washing will help maintain the appearance and adhesion of the wrap over time.
Is the wrap dishwasher-safe?
We do not recommend putting cups with UV DTF wraps in the dishwasher. The heat, steam, and harsh detergents in dishwasher cycles can weaken the adhesive bond and cause the wrap to lift or fade prematurely.
Troubleshooting
Part of my design is lifting — what should I do?
If a corner or edge begins to lift, act quickly before it catches on something and tears further:
- Clean the lifting area and the exposed cup surface gently with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
- Let it dry completely.
- Press the lifting section firmly back down and hold for 30–60 seconds with steady pressure.
- If the edge continues to lift, a very small amount of clear-drying craft adhesive applied under the edge can help re-bond it.
Lifting is most often caused by surface oils, moisture at the time of application, or applying the wrap to a textured surface. Ensure the cup is fully clean and dry before the initial application to minimize this risk.
